Welcome to BIODIVERSITY WEBSITE's home page, on web-space kindly provided by PSINet with programming by mFusion&trade. This web-site specializes in parts of nature conservation others ignore. Come here for information about invertebrates, fungi and micro-organisms, and the plants and animals on which they feed.
The site provides reports on projects, meetings and expeditions dealing with these organisms around the world, particularly in countries poor in resources but rich in biological diversity. Where appropriate, these reports may also deal with other aspects of biodiversity, including human biological and cultural diversity, and sustainable tourism.
For individual countries, particularly those of the former Soviet Union (FSU) and its former satellites, there is a pilot directory of scientists working with those organisms, and the institutions in which they are based. There is also a small amount of information about selected groups of organisms.
In future, however, larger amounts of information will be presented here about a wider range of organisms, particularly about their scientific names and classification, with keys, descriptions, illustrations and distribution maps. There will also be advice on how to record these organisms, including information about field structures for computerized storage of the data.
The language used throughout the site is English. In future versions, however, information will also be provided, as appropriate, in the main language of each country for which work is being displayed.
